316H (UNS S31609) is a high carbon austenitic stainless steel, a variant of 316 stainless steel. It has excellent strength and creep resistance at high temperatures while maintaining good corrosion resistance.
316H (S31609) is an austenitic stainless steel designed specifically for high-temperature, pressure-bearing applications. It achieves exceptional high-temperature strength and creep resistance through an increased carbon content (0.04-0.10%), while maintaining the excellent corrosion resistance (particularly resistance to chloride pitting/crevice corrosion) and machinability of the 316 series. Its core applications are high-temperature piping and components in power plant boilers, chemical, and petrochemical plants. When selecting a material, it must be distinguished from standard 316 (S31600), low-carbon 316L (S31603), and titanium-containing 316Ti (S31635). Selection should be based on specific temperature, pressure, corrosive environment, and welding requirements. Solution treatment is essential for optimal performance.
