Overview

Nickel Alloy C276, part of the Hastelloy® family, is a premier nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. Designed to perform under extreme conditions, it is widely utilized in industries where resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and oxidizing media is critical. Its versatility and reliability make it a preferred choice for demanding applications across chemical processing, pollution control, and energy sectors.

Key Features

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Excels in both oxidizing and reducing environments, resisting sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids, as well as chloride-induced stress corrosion.

  • High-Temperature Stability: Maintains integrity in temperatures up to 1900°F (1038°C) in oxidizing atmospheres.

  • Weldability: Low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, allowing use with TIG, MIG, and SAW methods.

  • Versatility: Effective in mixed acid and chloride-rich settings, outperforming stainless steels and other alloys.

Chemical Composition

  • Nickel (Ni): ~57% (base)

  • Molybdenum (Mo): 15–17%

  • Chromium (Cr): 14.5–16.5%

  • Iron (Fe): 4–7%

  • Tungsten (W): 3–4.5%

  • Cobalt (Co): ≤2.5%

  • Carbon (C): ≤0.01% (enhances weldability)

  • Other Elements: Mn, V, Si, P, S in trace amounts.

Applications

  • Chemical Processing: Reactors, heat exchangers, and piping systems handling corrosive chemicals.

  • Pollution Control: Scrubbers, ducting, and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems.

  • Pharmaceuticals: Equipment for acidic or chloride-containing processes.

  • Marine and Energy: Seawater components, brine solutions, and nuclear fuel reprocessing.

Available Forms

  • Wrought Products: Sheets, plates, bars, tubes, pipes, and fittings.

  • Fabrication Components: Valves, pumps, fasteners, and welding wire.

Benefits

  • Long Service Life: Reduces downtime and replacement costs in harsh conditions.

  • Cost-Effectiveness: Higher initial cost offset by durability and low maintenance.

  • Compliance: Meets ASTM standards (B575, B574) for quality assurance.

Why Choose Alloy C276?

Ideal for environments where lesser materials fail, C276 offers unmatched resilience against complex corrosive challenges. Its adaptability across industries and ease of fabrication make it a strategic investment for critical infrastructure.
