Characteristics of Hastelloy C22 alloy

1. Corrosion resistance Hastelloy C22 alloy is one of the strongest corrosion resistance alloys on the market, even better than C276 and C625 alloys. It has excellent resistance to almost all reducing and oxidizing environments, including strong oxidants, seawater and a variety of organic acids. In addition, it has good resistance to local corrosion caused by chloride ions, which makes Hastelloy C22 alloy excellent when dealing with strong acids and other corrosive media.

2. Oxidation resistance Hastelloy C22 alloy has excellent resistance to oxidation, carburizing and vulcanization at high temperatures. However, it is not recommended to use the C22 alloy at temperatures above 1250°F (677°C), as an embrittlement phase may form. This oxidation resistance makes Hastelloy C22 alloy have a wide application prospect in high temperature applications.

3. Mechanical properties Hastelloy C22 alloys are usually supplied in an annealed state and have the lowest yield strength. The strength level of this alloy can be increased by cold working. The melting point of C22 alloy is 1399°C (2550°F), which allows it to maintain good mechanical properties at high temperatures.

4. Heat treatment Hastelloy C22 alloys are typically annealed at 1121°C (2050°F) followed by rapid cooling. This heat treatment process helps to maintain the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the alloy.

5. Machinability Hastelloy C22 alloy can be formed by cold working and hot working methods. Due to its rapid work-hardening characteristics, multiple annealing treatments are required during cold working to ensure the properties and processing accuracy of the material. During hot working, the recommended starting temperature of the C22 alloy is 1232°C (2250°F) and the recommended ending temperature is 954°C (1750°F).
