N04400 Monel 400 is a very important nickel-copper alloy and the oldest of the nickel-based alloy families. It is renowned for its corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance:
Seawater/Brine Environments: Excellent corrosion resistance to flowing seawater and brine solutions (including salt spray), erosion corrosion, and cavitation corrosion.
Reducing Acids: Resistant to reducing acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid (especially at low and medium concentrations and room temperature), phosphoric acid, and hydrofluoric acid.
Alkaline Environments: Excellent performance in most alkaline solutions (including molten alkali).
Neutral Salt Solutions: Resistant to corrosion in a variety of salt solutions.
Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance: More resistant to stress corrosion cracking than austenitic stainless steel in many media.
Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: In environments containing chloride ions (such as seawater), its pitting and crevice corrosion resistance far exceeds that of many stainless steels.
High-Temperature Corrosion Resistance: Maintains good corrosion resistance even at high temperatures in reducing atmospheres.
