N04400 (commonly known by commercial name Monel 400) is a classic nickel-copper solid solution strengthening alloy (approximately 67% Ni, 30% Cu). It is renowned for its outstanding corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties in specific environments. Its main features include:
1. Excellent corrosion resistance
It has extremely strong resistance to seawater and salt water and can withstand high-speed seawater erosion.
Resistant to corrosion by various acids (such as hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid), alkalis and salt solutions.
It performs well in reducing media, but its corrosion resistance is limited in strong oxidizing acids such as nitric acid.
Good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
2. Good mechanical properties
It maintains high strength and toughness within a medium high temperature range from low temperatures to approximately 480°C.
There is a significant tendency for work hardening, and the strength and hardness can be greatly enhanced through cold working.
3. Physical and processing properties:
Non-magnetic and with good low-temperature toughness.
The workability is acceptable, but it is more difficult to process than ordinary steel (work hardening should be noted).
It has good welding performance and can be welded by various conventional methods.
Main application fields:
Marine engineering: Marine pump shafts, propellers, valves, fasteners, seawater pipeline systems.
Chemical Engineering and petrochemical industry: Containers, heat exchangers, valves and pumps for handling hydrofluoric acid, alkaline solutions and brine.
Oil and gas: Downhole tools, pump shafts, valve assemblies.
Heat exchanger: Especially in situations involving seawater cooling.
Summary: N04400/Monel 400 is a benchmark nickel-copper alloy resistant to seawater corrosion and reducing acid corrosion. It is particularly suitable for critical fields such as Marine environments and chemical engineering (such as hydrofluoric acid treatment), and is a high-performance corrosion-resistant material choice with high cost performance.
